Eeling

We are driving to the Taitapu Creek to go eeling.
I am really excited. Last time I caught a huge eel.

First we got the torches. There is an eel slowly drifting
downstream with the current.

So we get the hand lines and chuck them in the water.
We are using 2 ounce sinkers and 20 pound line and some
pig liver.

I feel a yank and another and then it stopped. I reeled it in.
There was nothing on my line.  The liver was gone so I put
more on I feel 3 big yankes and then it stops then. I turn the
torch on the liver was gone.

I thought for a moment. I think I put too much on the hook
so I put less on and chucked it in again. Good I thought, they
are still hungry. Waited 30 second I hooked him. He was
struggling I got him up to the bank it took a long time to get the
hook out. The eel I caught keeps on swallowing the hook!
Then we went down with the spears but we got nothing.
After hours of spearing, we went home.
